Virtual Experiences That Take Quarantine To The Next Level

Updated: Aug 14, 2020

Malaysians were forced to adapt to the cordon sanitaire implemented by the government due to the Covid-19 Outbreak. A new norm was created because of this and everyone had to social distance themselves with their friends. The Movement Control Order (MCO) was given on March 18, 2020, and was later replaced with a more relaxed version, Conditional MCO. Citizens were forced to practice social distancing to flatten the outbreak curve by staying home and not “kesana...kesini…”.

Netizens tried their hardest to cope with the new normal by completing challenges and taking up new skills such as cooking, baking, singing and even interior designing. Anything that keeps them sane at home. The results were remarkable!

Since the pandemic, virtual experiences have been on the rise since we aren’t allowed to go out and experience it normally. It has been drawing society’s attention ever since, but hey, we can still do fun activities online. All thanks to technology advancements and stable Wi-Fi. These are a few of the virtual events that have taken place during the quarantine and it was*chef’s kisses* sensational.

Global Citizen has organized One World Together at Home in collaboration with Lady Gaga who also curated for the event on YouTube. It featured artists doing live sessions in the comfort of their own home such as Elton John, FINNEAS, Paul McCartney, Lizzo and many more. The link to their videos will be at the end of this article. *finger guns* Do check them out.

Aside from international events, a group of our local college students recently organized a month-long event called ‘The New NRML’. It was filled with weekly live streams like interviews, talk shows, charity game streams and workshops. The main goal of the event was to make people feel united even when quarantined in their humble abode. They wanted their audiences to feel heartened and help them adapt to the new normal.

July 25th was the start of their Phase 2. They had a one-day online event with thrift shops, work out sessions and various other activities. Not forgetting the highlight of the event, a concert that featured a diversity of student artists. It was da bomb!

We can always find some fun amid the pandemic. Do whatever that keeps you going and sane. We won’t judge! It's definitely a tough time, but we will go through this together. #StayHomeStaySafe
