How Do I Love Myself?

This is a question that is often asked when you are feeling insecure about yourself or when you see other people loving themselves and you cannot bring yourself to feel the same way. It is always challenging to love yourself, but the outcome of loving yourself is great.

Why? Well, let’s start with what love truly is. Love can be defined as an emotion to feel a connection with another person whether it is with a partner, your family or even your best friend. But what if you put this emotion into yourself to accept yourself as who you are? That is self-love. Self-love is also about appreciating and accepting yourself. Loving yourself gives you the chance to lift yourself higher and become stronger to conquer the outside world as you have to love yourself first before loving or caring for others.

Challenges to Expect and to Overcome

There will be all kinds of challenges and obstacles for you to conquer before finally loving yourself. There will be people insulting you, telling you that you are ugly, fat, too skinny, not cool and many more which only brings your self-esteem down to the point where all those hurtful words get to your head and you start to believe in them.

Having this unhealthy mindset will only affect your health mentally and physically. Instead, try to think more positively and know that these people who are trying to bring you down and might think the worst of you are actually jealous and admire you but are too insecure to admit it.

The journey to overcoming challenges to love yourself includes having a positive mindset, surrounding yourself with people who love and care for you for who you are, not comparing yourself to others and stepping outside your comfort zone to experience something new.

Why Self-Love?

Why do you need to love yourself? You need to make sure that you feel okay first before you begin to love others. For example, you cannot take care of someone who has broken their leg while your own leg is broken because you would be screaming in pain. You should always make sure that you have enough of that love to be able to give to other people or else you would be exhausted from constantly trying to be there for others.

Loving yourself also helps motivate you to make healthy decisions in life and avoid having any regrets. You need a healthy mindset to be able to look in the mirror and say “I love you” to yourself because YOU are amazing because of who YOU are.

Learning to love yourself can bring your life to a whole new level and help you realise things about yourself that you never even knew because you are finally focusing on yourself rather than focusing on others. You have to always remember that it all starts with you being confident in yourself and willing to make changes so you can try new things to be able to love yourself. Always accept yourself for who you are because there will never be another you in this world.
